Worship
You are invited to worship with us! The Lord is always near to us as we gather in his name.
Our 8:15 am service of Word and Prayer is a spoken word, non-musical service, with Holy Communion offered on the second and fourth Sundays.
At the traditional 10:30 am service, we use liturgy settings from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Hymns are selected from this hymnal. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first and third Sundays of the month and on Festival Sundays.
For those who might be visiting, please know that we practice an “open table” and welcome you to the Lord’s Supper. Adults who have been baptized are encouraged to commune. Grape juice is also available, if desired. Children not yet instructed in communion are invited to come forward for a special pastoral blessing.
Children are a vital part of our faith community. We encourage their attendance at worship and offer a "Children's Sermon". Recognizing that not all are able to sit through a service, many children then go downstairs to the nursery (staffed with nursery director). A paging system is also available for parents with very young children. Nursery is available every Sunday from 9:00 am until noon.
The Altar Guild
The Altar Guild assists the Pastor and Worship Committee in preparing the worship area of the church and is under the direct supervision of the Pastor. Members, with the custodian, see that the chancel and other areas of worship are clean and in order. They are responsible for the set-up of communions, confirmations and all special services. They take care of the paraments and altar linens, acolyte vestments, brass, candles, etc. They also deliver the altar flowers to hospitalized and home bound members, if the donor is unable to do so. At St. Luke's the Guild trims the Chrismon tree and decorated for all seasons. Ten to twelve persons serve on the Guild. Two are assigned to each month's duty. Training is held regularly and is conducted by the Pastor or chairperson.
This witness is a rewarding privilege and a responsibility to accept as an expression of faith. The members learn the correct names of items and a deeper meaning as to why things are done in our worship life. In serving, the members enjoy a special fellowship with each other and a closeness with our Pastor.
Music
Corporate worship expresses the unity of the people of God and their continuity with Christians across the ages. Music is a very important part of our worship. Along with the liturgy, it becomes a worthy instrument in the praise and thanksgiving of the people of God. Two different groups meet from September through early summer, offering their gifts at the 10:30 am service.
