Baskets of Promise
This Lent we’re joining Lutheran World Relief’s BASKETS of PROMISE campaign. Each week, we’ll collect a different item that we’ll use to assemble Personal Care Kits that give people around the world tools to stay healthy in life’s most challenging situations.
Our neighbors need Lutheran World Relief Personal Care Kits. The COVID-19 pandemic brought more than a disease to our most vulnerable neighbors. In some communities it has meant hunger, as they’ve been cut off from food, seeds and critical farming supplies. In others, it has meant getting sick or dying from malaria, HIV or childbirth because health centers are stretched too thin — or because people are afraid to seek the help they need, fearing they will catch the coronavirus at the hospital. The past year also brought devastating disasters, one after another. A massive explosion in Beirut killed hundreds and left 300,000 homeless. Back-to-back hurricanes in Central America decimated the crops and modest homes of people who were already living in grinding poverty. Between COVID-19 and the many challenges of 2020, the need for LWR Personal Care Kits around the world has grown and intensified. Meanwhile, LWR warehouse shelves are almost empty. But your love can make a difference. People of every age can share God’s love by making LWR Personal Care Kits.
The following is included in each personal care kit:
ONE light-weight bath-size towel (between 20x40 and 52x27), dark color recommended; TWO or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original wrapping; ONE adult-size toothbrush in it’s original packaging*
ONE sturdy comb, remove packaging;
ONE metal nail clippers (attached file optional), remove packaging.
*Toothbrush multi-packs may be used by sealing an individual toothbrush in a business-size envelope; no plastic bags or wrap.
