Day 22 of 90...I have been hearing about this stretch of road in Idaho since I was on the train headed West...Highway 12, curves lazily back and forth along the Selway and Lochsa rivers as it climbs toward Lolo Pass. The first 7 1/2 miles today out of Syringa as I headed to the cafe didn’t disappoint! Stunningly clear river, surrounded by high reaching pine, crossing in and out of the sun and shade. As the day continued it didn’t change...in fact, for 70 miles it was beautiful image after image. River grade climbing (1-3%) was a much needed break from the passes...Stayed at Lochsa Lodge, 13 miles south of Lolo Pass, so it’ll be another hard morning, but then a drop down into Missoula, MT. Lochsa Lodge is a great facility and caters to cyclists...so nice!
72 miles...2336 climbing.
